Califari Double Bear 20 x 24 Canvas Art

By | Califari, History, Spirituality | No Comments

Robert Peterson gives us some deep Califari insight to the history of how the concept of “California Dreaming” has existed for 100s of years.  This story shows how mythology and legends intertwined with politics and culture shaped the future for this place on Earth that was once called Califia and was run by beautiful black man eating women!  This historical tale really shines a light on the fact that; when looking through the lens of time, we are clearly all one human race!

Counting Down to Reggae on The River 2016

By | Music | No Comments

Califari is excited to be counting down to Reggae on The River 2016!  Our company was basically conceived at this event so it makes sense that we are back to debut our booth, which will be full of our wares and art works!  To celebrate our road back to the Eel River, we are busting out some old video gems from many years ago at the river!  We went deep back in 2002 with The Ghetto Youth Crew featuring; Ky Mani Marley, Julian Marley, Stephen Marley and of course Jr. Gong Marley!  That’s a lot of Marley’s and they were young and on fire and all on the same stage.  All these years later they have each broken out to huge solo careers and of course Jr Gong pulled down a Grammy and big ratings for his Welcome to JamRock…  Well this was way before that!!!  And amazing U Nah Mean?  Look for more Reggae on the River gems coming soon!

Julz Lynn – Califari Soul Skater

By | Cannabis, Spirituality | No Comments

Julz Lynn is the quintessential Califari Soul Skater and we were excited to spend a day with her poolside… Of course this pool was empty and fully occupied by Julz and a posse of skater bros.  Julz has been accused of skating like a guy before because she has an aggressive take no prisoners approach to dropping into pools and riding along with the best of them! This was a typical day in the life of Cali Pool Skating!

Besides being a great skater and Freestyler, Julz is also a cannabis lover and spiritual seeker!  She also has some deep creative visions, which were quite apparent when you hear her describe the new deck she designed:

I was in the parking lot of the skate park thinking about a lot of different things. I started meditating and this vision came to mind of smoke around a full moon and the smoke turned to green. There were crows circling around the full moon. A pin up girl with tattoos and a lock around her neck, I had seen Steve Alba wear a similar one actually. She had a white tiger coming out of her, teeth showing fierce with aggression. The white tiger slashed my name across the tail and flames then exploded behind tiger’s strong arm. I was thinking black and white between the pin up girl and the tiger because of the balance/ yin n yang they have. The white tiger and crows are also my spirit totem animals. The outsides have the Red Green Gold color patterns in the smoke and ad dimension in the background. I drew up a rough draft in a sketch book I had and brought it into the office at Pink Widow Distribution. I put my drawings and visions together into words and the artist Kenny McB took what I had to create something. I took a little bit and only a couple corrections and finally we had the graphic in digital form to have boards made. It is very exciting to have a pro model with Silly Girl Skateboards because not many females have their own board model and it is the first professional model board Silly Girl has put out.

City of Angels

By | History | No Comments

To celebrate 420 here in the City of Angels we picked up our bro- Wilton Rezande, who agreed to model some of our latest Califari Shirts!  Wilton is kind of a bad ass who is a black belt in Jiu Jitsu and loves to play soccer and chill when he’s not dominating his opponents!    We payed homage to the City of Angels while rocking our Venice Beach 70’s surfer shirt and it made us think… Just how did LA become the “City of Angels”?

For years, history has told that on September 4, 1781, 44 “pobladores” who were recruited from northern Mexico to help cement Spain’s control over Alta, California (Upper California), established the settlement. Only two of these settlers identified as Spaniards; the rest came primarily of African or Indian descent. However over the past few decades scholars have uncovered that the pobladores arrived separately, some as early as that June. (September 4 remains the traditional celebrated anniversary).

The small town received the name El Pueblo de Nuestra Señora Reina de los Ángeles de la Porciuncula, “The Town of Our Lady Queen of the Angels.” Located on the Los Angeles River, the settlement became a cattle ranching center. The oldest house in Los Angeles County was built in 1795 on what became the Rancho San Antonio. It is now known as the Henry Gage Mansion and is in Bell Gardens.

So there ya have it! We suppose that “The Town of Our Lady Queen of the Angels” was just too much of a mouthful, so now it’s just LA…  Should we feel short changed? Our culture is so abbreviated now, long titles are out, hell vowels are even out! We don’t have time for them any longer in our go-go gadget mindset!

Perhaps we all need to chillax, errr, I mean, chill out and relax and use complete sentences!

Cannabis for Spiritual Purposes

By | Cannabis, Hemp, History, Spirituality | No Comments

The “Church of Califari” believes that using Cannabis for Spiritual Purposes is just as important as using Cannabis for Medicinal Reasons!

“Legalize It!” -Peter Tosh

Naturally, Califari believes all states should make Cannabis legal for Medicinal and Spiritual purposes!  Califari believes Cannabis should be a legal sacrament for spiritual uses for its members 21 and over just as Red Wine is used as a sacrament in the Christian Church.

Prior to the USA’s forty year prohibition, Cannabis has been used in a entheogenic context in India since the Vedic period dating back to approximately 1500BCE, but perhaps as far back as 2000BCE. There are several references in Greek mythology to a powerful drug that eliminated anguish and sorrow. Herodotus wrote about early ceremonial practices by the Scythians, thought to have occurred from the 5th to 2nd century BCE. Itinerant Hindu saints have used it in India for centuries. [1]

In modern culture the spiritual use of cannabis has been spread by the disciples of the Rastafari movement, who use use cannabis as a part of their worshiping of their King, Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia, and as an aid to meditation.

Now it is time for the next wave of Spiritual Cannabis Achievers to restate how Cannabis and Spirituality compliment each other just like Peanut Butter & Jelly!
